About Thurston County SAR

The teams that make up Thurston County Search and Rescue provide search and rescue services and emergency services support to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office and Thurston County Department of Emergency Services. These services are provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. All of the people who are members of the these teams and units are volunteers, they all give one of their most important and valuable personal items “Their Time”. It would cost Thurston County millions of dollars if they where to use county employees or to try and pay for this valuable service.
In addition to their time each of these volunteers spends thousands of dollars of their own money. They buy all of their own equipment. They purchase; vehicles, radios, dogs, horses, packs, first aid kits, and general SAR equipment.

The list can go on and on depending on the area of specialization. As volunteers we receive NO money from the Sheriff’s Office or the county to fund our missions.
When we mentioned time, these volunteers give up hours and hours of their own time to train. They attend unit and team training, they attend county training's, and some go to the State SAR Conference to receive training. This is all done on their own time and at their own expense.
So please if you feel so inclined to help us please check our donation section.
